I just purchased a used Emmons volume pedal that had no pot installed. It has a Blue and Green wire on the input jack and a red and yellow wire on the output jack. The yellow wire is tied to ground. So, in summary, I have a red, green, and blue wire and 3 posts on the Dunlap labeled SL, CW, and CCW. Can someone steer me onto which one goes where?

Steve, have you tried the Dunlop pot in the Emmons pedal to see if there is clearance for it? Will it fit? I have not gotten around to trying it yet.

It'll fit, not a lot of spare room, but enough.
Sorry, can't help with the color coding 'cause 2 of my wires aren't original.

CCW is for Counterclockwise - it's the ground connection, so when the pot turns all the way left, it's off, just like any volume knob.
CW is the full on volume end of the track - that's the input (guitar) jack tip connection.
SL must be the wiper which connects to the tip of the output (amp) jack. |

Steve, I just installed a new Dunlop Pot. in my Emmons pedal. It is a close fit but does have clearance. Tom Bradshaw sends a wiring instruction sheet with the pot that you shouldn't have any trouble following. I will post a picture of the wiring instructions and Emmons pedal wiring for you later on this evening to show you what mine looks like. I don't have time right now. |

Hi Steve
Those dunlop pots are an excellent unit, but they are not as robust as the old A/B, clarostat. Make sure there is no pressure on the actual pot ie the start and stop must be on the pedal itself and not relying on the pot stop.

Here is a copy of the wiring instructions that comes with the Dunlop Pot. You can also see in the 2nd and 3rd pictures how the pot string is wound around the shaft. I did put a small piece of electrical tape(not shown) over the solder connections since the clearance was close so as not short out any of the connections.
I have not had any problems since installing the pot and setting the travel so that I have a very low volume with my pedal all the way off, which is the way I like mine set. Be sure to keep enough tension on the string while wrapping it around the pot shaft and tightening it down under the screw so it won't slip on you.
SEE 2ND PHOTO
The Brown wire on the Left Side of the "OUT" Jack goes to the Slider or Center Tap on the pot.
The Right side of the "OUT" goes to Ground on the pedal.
On the "IN" Jack the Brown wire on the Left side goes to the CCW pin on the Pot. The Brown wire on the Right Side of the "IN" Jack goes to the CW on the Pot.
If all else fails.... Read The Instructions

Thanks guys for the assistance. I can see now that I have a couple of things wrong. I have the spool on backwards, and it looks as thought I have the string wrapped wrong too. The pictures are worth a million bucks, although I'm still waiting for the million. Thanks again for all your help guys.

Never let any pot stop the pedal in either direction as that will lead to premature failure in no time. When wiring the Dunlop pot look at the connectors and rotate until you see a distinct V. The bottom of the V is the output- the left hand top of the V is the ground and the right hand top of the V is for the input. |
