Verse 1
It Don't mean a thing, if you don't have the twang
Of steel guitar playing in your song
It would be all wrong, and country don't belong
if a steel guitat's not playing in your song

Chorus
We'll not leave this town, we'll just keep hanging round
if you play country loud and clear
It don't mean a thing, if you don't have the twang
Of a steel guitar playing in your song.

Verse 2
I've heard it said before, in the days of yore
country music can't be beat,
we'll keep our seats as long as you keep
A steel guitar playing in your song

tag
If a steel don't belong in your country song
It's a song I don't want to hear

Played about like a shuffle or western swing as Donna Dodd calls it.
I did it first in Bluntstown with John Hughey and Roy R, we recieved a standing ovation, also in Saluda
was the second time.

This is a great song Ernie wrote and we are lucky to hear it now and then at our Florida Steel Guitar club jams.
