Wiz,

Everytime I try to download this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXRa3iXldzA or others with YouTube Downloader http://www.youtube-d.com/ I get an error that reads, "HTTP?1.1 403 Forbidden".

I've reloaded the program but problem remains. This use to be a great downloading program until this.

Any suggestions?

Jim

HTTP 1.1 403 Forbidden

Translation: Go Away! Access Denied! Nyet!

I guess Google doesn't want you downloading those videos in alterable form (.avi), using that tool. A 403 is not an accident. It is a server response closing the door on you when a User_Agent, Remote_Addr (IP), Request_URI, Referer, or other criteria matches conditions set in an access control file (.htaccess [Apache], or Isapi_Rewrite [Windows Server]). You were denied access (server status 403) on purpose, for using a tool not approved of by YouTube. They must be blocking it on purpose for you to be served a 403.

Apache Server .htaccess example:

RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^YouTube\ Downloader [NC]
RewriteRule .* - [F]

And that's all she wrote if you try to use that tool. [F] means "Forbidden."

OK Wiz, so what gives. Terry MaCumbee says it's ok to download http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=117033.

I've tried http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Download-Managers/VDownloader.shtml as suggested but it downlaods 100% and then says it has an error.

Anything else to try?

Thanks,
Jim

Jim, make sure your vdownloader is the 6.1 version. Vdownloader works great but you have to update it every so often. I just downloaded the video and it works great but I had to update last week to a newer version. Hope this helps. Ray
