Jim Loessberg, Randy's Rodeo & o.b. McClinton

in 1973 obie from senatobie, o.b. mcclinton, recorded an award winning lp at randy's rodeo in san Antonio. I'm guessing jim loesberg and the randy's rodeo house band was on that record. was rick price in that same group?
anybody know more details of this night in country music history?
a country music trail marker has been erected in honor of his place in country music history.
I am doing an appreciation event on april 25th in Senatobia on the eve of what would have been o.b.'s 74th birthday and would like to relate some of this history.

I've known Jim for about 35 years, and I believe that in 1973 he was a teenage drummer in Austin. His father Les Loessberg was a well-regarded steel player here in Austin.

There were a lot of excellent steel players in San Antonio in those days... and still are, BTW..., so Price could possibly be the one you're hearing. Rick was predominantly with Johnny Bush during that time period, or perhaps Dicky Overbey.

Jim, being the historian that he is, could probably tell you precisely who the entire band was on the recording you mention.

O.B's sister miss Cloteal is the brainchild and it is looking quite fitting for a tribute to O.B. on the eve of his 74th birthday, it will begin around 5:30pm and go 'til 10:00pm.any and all of O.B.'s old friends from the mid south jamboree, staxx/enterprise records and/or wherever are invited.
dale Stacey, on pedal steel,others and myself plan to re-create the randy's rodeo album for our part. there will be others talents on hand also, so the night will evolve around music and Obie from Senatobie. Friday nite, april 25th, 2014.

Drums -- Larry Roberson and Henry Strzelecki
Rhythm Guitar -- Darrell McCall

My best guess is the mention of Henry Strzelecki
in the drum credit is a mistake.

The next time I see one of those guys I will try to remember to ask what they recall about the recording.

I have just about brought myself to the conclusion that this was first recorded in a Nashville studio with these musicians and then the show was done and the applause and jokes & banter recorded at randy's.
the back-up aingers seem too precise and some applause is just not natural honkey tonk.
I could be wtong, ...real wrong.

from the day that this was real country music...
I heard from from hank singer last night and he affirmed that indeed they did record this live at randy's rodeo in 1973.

Hi Jack,

I saw Dicky today and he said Henry Strzelecki was indeed there and Dicky thought he remembered Henry playing some drums. He also said the backup singers were at the live session.

I had no idea Henry plays drums and I am always glad to learn something.

According to Justin Trevino, this was Darrell McCall’s band at the the time. I checked Darrell’s book, and it confirms, that he formed The Tennessee Volunteers in 1971 with this lineup…except that Johnny Gross was the original lead player.
