Has anybody experienced pain in the area where the right leg connects to the inside of the hip when the leg is lifted up and moved laterally? Been having a lot of pain when trying to lift the leg upward a bit to move the foot from the volume pedal to pedals 7 or 8. The area does not hurt when pressed. I had the doctor check it out and an X-ray revealed no structural damage in the hip area. His explaination was that there was probably some scarring on the ligaments due to an old injury which have built up an encrusted area which is abrasive and is causing the pain. He said I'd just have to live with it as surgery would not help

Could this be similar to a "frozen shoulder" problem where the only solution is to do a exercises to loosen the encrusted elements or to have surgery to remove them? Any suggestions would be welcome. Want to continue playing C 6th. without the pain. Thanks, steve t

It's been a long time ,but I have quit playing multiple times because of pain . I was walking on a cain a few years ago when I was in my early 40's. I found a Chiropractor who also does a preasure point therapy (she atsu I don't have a clue on spelling). I feel better than I have in 15 years.I was diagnosed with Arthritis at 25.
If you remember I bought the Williams crossover because of the pain getting past pedal 4. It solved that, but something else happen and it got to the point that just walking was painful. I sold everything and quit again. I am now back to pain after about 4 pedals so I just bought another MSA and made it a C 6 th single neck. Maybe another crossover in the future.
I am not saying they are for every one but I know what he has done for me.

I've heard that shark cartilage and fish oil vitamin suppliments work on this sometimes. They are supposed to help build cartilage and lubricate your joints. You might try doing a search on the internet about this.

3 years ago, I had to walk with a cane. Really hard goin' up stairs. Worse comin' down! Acupuncture didn't help. I went to a Chinese herbal doctor. Took my girlfriend to translate. First batch didn't work. Neither did the second. Third batch? Threw away the cane! You should be able to find the best herbal docs in the world considering your location. Try it!

That sounds like a sciatic nerve trap and a osteopath should sort you out. Hope you find help

Hi Steve, how have you been? After having your Sierra Crown tuned and tweeked I've been playing the dickins out of it and loving it! Very Happy Try yoga stretching excercises that focus on the tendons in that area of the leg. This has helped me tremendously for lower back and leg pain. Good Luck!

Steve I experienced the exact same pain (very painful) my bride finally talked me to going in to see a chiropractor (which I always thought were quacks) but after going through a rigorous initial exam he found that I actually had a nerve being pinched off causing the pain, also that when I stand I have a difference of about 20 pounds pressure more on my left leg than on my right, something I couldn't notice but he has this machine that he has me stand on, and it shows the difference. Anyway to make a long story longer, after about 3 -4 sessions of him readjusting/realinging me, I have been pain free. I know this sounds strange, but it really worked, I was the biggest skeptic of them all, but it really did help. You might give it a whirl. Good luck.

Steve , You might try putting your pedal 8 in the 4 position and put your pedal 4 (A to B) raise on your RLK...that way you can keep your right foot on the VP when playing "Hold-It" and the such.

It may help to do some stretches and strengthening exercises for the hip area. Periformis muscles tend to really get tight. Hip abductors and adductors will be tight too, just from living. I've had similar aches that are amplified by some osteoarthritis that's come on from a fracture from many years ago. Diet and exercise, -the stretches especially, have helped me. Good luck.

You guys are absolute "magic"; can't tell you how much I appreciate the advice. Just returned to Beijing and intend to see another doctor for a second opinion and start with a physical therapist who, I hope, will provide me stretching/yoga exercises to help build up the muscles in the lower back and "right legs meets hip" area. Will aslo inquire about pressure point therapy and accupunture.

Presently, I can lift the leg and move it to pedal 7 and only have a bit of tightness, so I will leave the copedant where it is, Brad. Will make the change if none of the remedies works.

Of course, I will also search the Internet for info on those edibles such as Coral Calcium, cartilage and fish oil, herbals etc. By the way, John, do you or your girlfriend know the name of the herb (in English or Chinese) that worked for you? I also need to look up that info about the sciatic nerve trap too, Mark.

Will post again with an update in a few weeks to let you know how it goes. Whatever happens, I wish to thank all you guys & b0b (His Forum makes it possible.) as well as one other Member who emailed me directly and wished to reamin anonymous. All the best, steve t

Steve, sorry i can't tell you ANY specifics. The herbal meds were a mix of probably a dozen herbs, that I boiled up to make tea. My doc looked at my tongue, took my pulse in a couple of places on both wrists, listened to my symptoms, and then mixed up a big batch of herbs.

I had a hard time with joint pain for a couple years, Doctors just give me more pills that didnt work..I looked around the internet and found that a niacin shortage can cause it, Olive Oil is rich in Niacin, I started using Extra Virgin Olive Oil for everything and no problen since, This is what worked for me, it may or may not for others....Im not a Doctor.....

Flame on! Steve, that stuff is "Magic"! I am convinced it is naive to assume that there is a causal relationship between the stuff you put in your mouth or the stuff you rub on your skin, and the healing of your body. Most problems will heal regardless of the intervention. Healthy parents, avoiding stupid behavior, and injury prevention, in my opinion, provide the biggest bang for the buck.

So relax, you will get better, in time.

Steve, If its ligament or tendon pain and scar tissue has built up around it (old injury) then a good masseur who knows Physiology is the answer, find a good sports injury specialist these people are excellent at massaging away internal injuries that tablets will never help. In my expierience someone who looks after cyclists is a good first choice, it may take several visits though. All the best.

I had a bout with Achilles tendonitis last year that took about5-6 months to get rid of (due in part I am sure, to daily practicing working pedals!)
Massage therapy with ultrasonically applied steroid compound worked pretty good on it but not so much as regular applications of a cold-pack & regular stretching exercizes. You might find that uncomfortable for a hip strain but with ankles, knees, elbows & wrists anyway, it's a real help.

About 2 years ago I was scheduled for surgery on my right knee,I started taking GLUCOSAMINE capsules twice a day and either SALMON oil or Omega 3 once a day and i've been pain free ever since.(no surgery) The glucosamine takes about 30 days to get into your system and start to work.
