Columbia single 20609, Drowning My Sorrows by Johnny Bond, featuring another slamming solo from Joaquin Murphey. He makes the simplest things sound so hip and swinging. Phrasing IS everything. This is a great song, as well.

Go to my MySpace page, go to the music player and select the last song in the listen. Then enjoy!

Sheer genius, not that I expected anything else.

Mike, any chance you can sooner or later put up the entire contents of that CD you mentioned having via Jeremy Wakefield of numerous obscure Joaquin recordings???

I have many recordings by Johnny Bond and if it is just Johnny and his guitar or a bunch of great swingin' musicians, the recordings are always a pleasure to listen too and very enjoyable-always a top steel player..Some records the harmonica and clarinet really tear things up most of of Johnny Bond's best was from the forties. Listen sometime to the piano on his Tennessee Saturday Night. Al

Great, Mike--thanks. The first two notes of his solo, I hit pause and said 'I don't think those notes are on my horn'. I went to the guitar---sure enough, the notes were there. Sort of. What an aggressive touch and sound.

Thanks Mike. You're doing us a great service. It's an especially good sounding record for that era. I also love the harmonica player. He's playing chromatic harmonica and doing it very well.

Mike, thanks for sharing these hard-to-find examples of JM's music this year. And-- just talkin' out my earholes here-- hope the treat bag stays open in '07!
