I believe I may have been had on Ebay. How do you tell the difference between original Pod and Pod 2? This was supposed to be a Pod 2, nowhere on it does it say "Version 2" or any such thing. I looked on Ebay and saw a lot of Pod 2's that look just like this one, but I don't know if it is or not. It does have Midi in and out, don't know if that tells, but the box says it originally came with Soundiver software. Should I make a fuss?

My Pod is red (black is bass) and on the center just above the display where it says POD, "version 2" is printed in smaller print.

call the factory at 805 379 8900 8am to 5 pm Pacific time with your serial number. They are nice poeple.

http://www.line6.com is their web site. There is lots of info there.

Turn off the pod, press and hold the "manual" button, as you power up the pod. It will read POD 2.0 if you have a Pod 2, continue holding and it will read 2.x for the firmware version. current version is 2.3. If you ask on line they may give up an upgrade at no charge.

Well, I did that and it comes up 1. nothing. Damn. Well, what can the 2 do that the 1 can't?

I suggest you check out the web site. Goto the POP area, then supoort. There is some info about the differences; one of which is an additional bank of amp models. The 2 has double the number of model 1.

I would at least call and determine if the model 1 has any firmware upgrades. This involves changing a large chip on the circuit board (at least on version 2. )

New POD 2's were selling here this summer for $199. I bought mine used with the manual for $100. I got the case, but no pedals. You might consider discussing the issue with the seller.

Well, I feel I've been had. The one sent was not even the same one pictured in the auction, which was a Pod 2. What a pain.

I believe the POD 2 upgrade will also let you select a speaker cabinet emulation (i.e 1x8 up to 4x12) from the front panel (without using the PC software), some combination of knob and button twirling (I don't have the book in front of me). It seems like they sent me the upgraded chip free, or for a small charge, it was easily installed by me.

The Pod 2 has the following nomenclature, right below and in between the Middle and Treble knobs:

POD
The Ultimate Guitar Direct Box
Version 2.0

This url shows the details: http://line6.com/pod/photogallery.html

If they advertised version 2.0 and sent you version 1 (just a plain POD), I would complain, they aren't the same. Yes, you can upgrade the firmware, but you should get what they said you would. It surely matters as to the value, IMO.

There are quite a lot of differences between Pod 2 and the original Pod. More amp and cabinet models, greater flexibility in assigning different types of cabs to amp models, different cabinet tuning modes, access to more parameters from the Pod face itself, and others. Email if you want other details.

There's no problem downloading the SoundDiver software or the more recent Line6 Edit software - it's no big deal if they didn't include it. But IMO, it's flat out wrong to send you the wrong model.

Michael, here's what I would do....

Send the seller a message telling him what you've found out, about about the unit being different than the one advertised, and requesting a complete refund including shipping. No threats, though...be nice. If he's honest, and made a dumb mistake, he'll work with you. This is your quickest way to resolve the issue. If you return the unit, be sure you send it Certified with Return Receipt for proof of delivery. He can refund your money thru Paypal, if you used it.

If he resists, then tell him that you will file a complaint with eBay over the issue. After 3 messages where he resists resolving the issue, see next paragraph.

If he blows you off, or won't answer back at all, file a dispute, in the Dispute Console, with eBay. They will investigate the auction and handle the seller. They are not fast at all with this stuff, so be patient.

Well, talk about service. Line 6 is sending out the Eprom chip free, no questions, along with a jack for my floorboard. Hopefully this will solve all problems.

Once you install the eprom it will open a new world of capabilities Smile My pod 1.0 became actually USEFUL after the upgrade Laughing

I also reccommend the Line6 soundiver or whatever it's called now for Deep Editing of parameters. you can access "hidden" amp / cab sims and several parameters unavailable from the control panel... of course this requires a MIDI interface on your computre

Hey Dave: could you explain a couple things that it will improve? I will be getting the MIDI interface. I see that one of the additional amp models is a Twin. Do you need the MIDI to access that or is it there wiith the new chip?

the signal to noise ratio improved. Quiter, more "overhead".

The Twin model is in the new chip , but takes an arcane button/knob combination to access from the front panel: the 2.0 manual in pdf form online tells you how and has a list of the additional models and what button combinations to press to access them; with the software it's easier, but the manual is good to have to know what to look for

other things not readily accessible from the knob/button interface like reverb decay parameters and other niggly stuff, plus easier access to the additional models/cab sims, and the fact you can store your fave "user" model revisions on the computer... stuff like that there
