I need to know what would be considered a fair price for a 2001 D-10 9 & 7 Franklin steel in pristine condition. I am not selling it but need the figure to settle a separation agreement. Thanks for your help.

Randy,
In this case (to help you out) I could estimate on the value of the guitar but I don't think your looking for jokes on this, all I can say is it would be on the low side.
Hope you don't get gigged to bad.

You need your attorneys advice before you try to hoodwink the wife; it can come back to bite you! It wouldn't take long for the value to be determined. Join the forum, do a search for $5.00. Easy PI work.

Randy,

A lot of us have been where you are. My advice is to get two or more offers (I'll be glad to be one) at around $250.

You don't have to accept them if you don't want to, but they would be bona fide offers.

Best of luck,

bUd

For the court...

...value equals retail purchase price minus depreciation. Depreciation would be somewhere between 5% and 10% per year, so take around 37% (for 5 years' depreciation) off what you paid.

That's your fair-price value.

I would pay $3000.00 for a Franklin as you have described yours. You could consider that an offer should you decide to sell it.

And I would offer you a firm $750, so you could take the average of these two offers.

Speaking from the (ewwwwww!!!!) lawyer's side of things, if they've been married any time at all, she's going to know approximately what was paid and so she'll know the low-ball figures stated here are b.s. Better off to start with the cost and do a tax depreciation over the period since you bought the guitar. That way it's not worth nearly as much.
