Hi guys,

I want to put together a PC laptop recording rig to record myself, acoustic instruments, steel guitar, vocal, and need your opinions and recommendations on gear. I won't be recording drums, bands, or anything that would need a bunch of inputs.

PC laptop
· memory
· ram
recording software (Cubase, Sonar, etc.)
pre-amp
i/o digital interface w/firewire (M-Audio, PreSonus Firepod, Inspire 1394)

Any tips you can give me would be appreciated.

Also, I'm looking at some packages:

American Musical Supply

Musican's Friend

thanks much,
Drew

I know you need good sound in, to good sound out.

I don't know about digital requirements.

Use your best mics and preamps on the most important instruments/vocals.

Hope this helps.

Check the software requirements carefully. Some of them require an external 7200 RPM hard drive

Drew, give me a call this weekend. I've been doing computer recording for several years now. I can probably point you in the right direction based on your budget.
