I have a rack mount BBE 441, it's a neat toy, puts an edge on the highs...
As for plug-in, that sounds like software. Does BBE make such a thing? [This message was edited by Ray Minich on 11 October 2006 at 06:34 AM.] |

Hey there Bruce, I use mine all the time especially on recordings it sweetens the top and bottom on everything, and there's a convenient pass thru switch on it so you can A-B the sound. Very good unit! |

I use the Sonic Maximizer plugin all the time. By far the most used plugin that I have. |

I have one in my pedal steel rack setup. I can definitely tell the difference! |

Me too. The BBE plug in is the first thing I try on a mastering pass- and it's often all I need. If it doesn't work out, then I have to go into frequency analysers and multi-band compression.
Sony wavehammer does a good job too.
Cheers

Thanks guys. I've heard a lot of good comments on the rack mount units. Looks like I'll have to get the software plug in and try it! |

It's a good plugin but it can be overdone. I can always hear when somebody has used too much of it. On the other hand, it's great for bringing the bass end back into an old cassette recording. That's my favorite use for it.

Yes, it should be used with great care. It's no coincidence that in some circles it is refered to as "The Terrorizer" and "The Brutalizer". Just make sure to A/B check often, it's easy to get so familiar with the sound that you forget where it's coming from and you overdo it.

I guess the "overdone" can be said about any effect. |

I have two of the 862 hardware units and the plugin, and as usual, the hardware sounds better. I don't use it on a lot of things, but when it works, it works well. The one thing I always use it on it toms, on the way in. It makes them stick in the track really well... I use the plug ins on occasion, sometimes on guitars (and tom tracks if I am mixing something someone else tracked)... As usual, YMMV... |
