There are TWO versions of "Beyond The Reef" by Marty.. one of them has J.B. on Steel ..
the other steel player is Jim Farmer..

As an aside.. the on-line CDDB gives the tracks the wrong titles for the whole of the Bear Family double album..

Thank you Gentlemen, I thought it sounded like JB, all I know for sure is, it's beautiful. I've been trying to decide on a tuning on my six string and stick with it long enough to learn something. I've tentatively settled on C6, and open E for reso. Does that soud ok?

It's interesting to note that BEYOND THE REEF, (or "Beyond Belief" - or - Beyond Relief" ...musicians are terrible when it comes to jokingly changing titles !)... was written by a Canadian who lived on the flat Saskatchewan prairies in the city of Regina. His name was Jack Pitman and although the song is "hawaiian", (small "h"), there is nothing in the lyrics which refers to Hawai'i as do most hapa haole Hawaiian songs. Jack played piano in Waikiki for many years before returning to Regina in his latter years.

Just for clarity..The NEW CD compilation By the Bear family Records Germany..is called "Hawai'i is Calling me" and is actually the two albums that Marty did of Hawaiian music.. Jerry byrd played on the second one he recorded. The first Hawaiian Album had Jim Farmer on Hawaiian Guitar..and included "Beyond The Reef"

Here is the Apaka Version...
