Howdy Jody
I have owned a D-8 String master
sense 1960 and I need to change
the pots , so I will be looking in the
cavities for termites and what ever !
My Question is -- is there a particular
area inside , that you and you fellow
members of Fender would sign you
mark ? - I hope to find your -JC - in there
some place -
For what its worth Jody - I have 3 other steels
and I have never been able to stay away from
this one ! all these years -

You wont find JC where your'e looking. But the person that worked on guitars such as your usually put his or her name under the tuning pan. What other steels do you have? If they are all Fenders more than likely you will find the initials in the same place. Usually if it's a multiple neck steel look under the tuning pan the furthest from you.
I wasn't in production I was in sales.
Thanks for your comment being one of my fans
but I'm not famous.
Thanks anyway and a Merry Christmas to you. |

Jody;
What do you mean? “I'm not Famous” You certainly are, to many many people both personally and through the SGF! I thought this was a fact that was settled long ago! You can't change History at this stage of the game!
(Sorry, I guess I got off topic, but; I just couldn't control myself!)

Atta boy, John, let him have it. That Carver fellow is always trying to work his modesty act around here, but it just doesn't play. Elected to the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame, almost sold out of the first run of Hot Club of America reissues - and not famous? Sorry, Jody, but you just have to face facts. As John says, you can't change history, and people in the steel guitar community all over the world acknowledge and admire the enormous contributions you've made to the history of the instrument we love. Hey, I admit that a few statues in parks might be better proof of your fame, but give us time, we're still working on that. Have a restful holiday, Jody. Our thoughts are with you.
To anyone who hasn't yet got a copy of the Hot Club album: get with it, already! It's simply one of the finest steel-and-guitar records of all time. Any copies left, Jody?[This message was edited by Ian McLatchie on 24 December 2004 at 05:23 AM.] |

You are moor highly respected
than you give your self credit for Jody !!
thanks for that info , I will give it a look !
As to your question , The other guitars
are a Fender pedal S-10 - student mod. - it was
a 3 & 1 - over the years I added 3 more levers ,
so it is now a 3 & 4.
the other is a Sierra D-10 Session 8 & 5 . -- Last but not
least ! is a Dobro . as you can see I'm heavy on pedals
but don't even play them any more . this String master
has been my pet for over 40 years & is what I play on
gigs or just to entertain my self in the wood shed .
you being in sales ! all I can say is thanks for selling
this one - even after I'm gone (2048) there going to
have to pry it out of my hands .

Jody, you are famous. There are a lot of people (like me)who have never had the pleasure of meeting you, but they know who you are and respect and admire your accomplishments. And like me, they wish they could acquire a copy of Hot Club Of America! That's fame, buddy.

Jody:
If you were the salesman who put the Fender line of equipment in Cliff Feree's music shop in Battle Creek Michigan, I owe you a bunch. I bought my first two steels from him. The last one was a D-8 Custom. This is a great guitar and enabled me to Discover why I couldn't get that Jerry Byrd sound.
You just don't realize the impact you and Leo Fender have had on our music world. At any rate we thank you for that..

Apples to Oranges - you walk tall on your own merit. And the great music you laid down stands the test of time - everybody still wants to hear it!
Jody, I wish I could say I know how you feel, and time heals everything. But I don't, and it doesn't. Have you ever thought about making a Steel Guitar tutorial or workshop DVD? Even though there are a few good ones out there, there is still a big need for more, and you're just the man who could fill that need. I hope I'm not being too presumptuous or talking out of turn, but it would be one good way for your time to never be gone.

Having finally got my hands on a few copies of the Hot Club album and Jody's Arthur Godfrey sessions, I'm now having the immense pleasure of turning other musicians on to this wonderful music. My friends Burke Carroll and Steve Briggs of the Bebop Cowboys were by the house this morning, and they're now the latest converts. I know you said you were getting low on the first run of CDs, Jody.
Are there any left, and how long before you expect to have more ready for sale?
A happy new year to you, Jody, and to all the other Forum members.
