I play regular guitar and very knowledgable with the fingerboard. What steel guitar tuning would come close to the guitar?(Fret positions, especially chords.)Musical interests are Hawaiian and Western Swing. |

Mike
I think an E tuning would be
as close as you could get ,
Open would be the same as an E
on your guitar - first fret F second F#
and on up -- 5th fret A -- ect.
Hope this helps !!

Besides the obvious open-E and its variations, open-G (g,b,d,g,b,d) and G6 (g,b,e,g,b,d) is also very easy to get used to for someone coming from a standard guitar background. In a straight G tuning strings 2, 3 and 4 are tuned identically to a standard guitar.

I can keep in touch with where I am as long as the top string is E. I use A6 tuning, so fret positions are the same as an A barre shape.
From the bottom A C# F# A C# E.
