Do any forum members know which tunings Santo used on his T-8 Fender other than C6 ? I've been learning their version of " Deep Purple " and can't quite get the intro right, and wondered if it was not in a C6 tuning . I do know some of the sessions they did were tuned slightly differently at least on the records issued, as far as being 440. Since I don't have a Fender Stringmaster, or Santo's unique vibrato, I'm not sure how much bearing that has on my hearing the difference as I work on it.
I love the rhythm section on their records. Does anyone know if they used studio guys on these or their own bandmates ?
A guy I work with saw ( Johnny ? ) playing steel on an oldies package show in Michigan this past year.

Thanks for your reply . I retuned to A6 and it worked out great. What is the C# minor tuning for 8 string ?

Kevin:

It must be the traveling. I had grooved in C#m7, but you asked fro C#m

Here it is from top string to low string:

E
C#
G#
E
B
E

I prefer C#m7 because there are more rich possibilities.

Aloha no.

I had an old Santo and Johnny LP which had a tune called "The Breeze and I" which was really a great cut. I attended Scotty's convention when Santo & Johnny were inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. I'd always been under the impression that on their records Santo played steel and Johnny the guitar. Is that true? Is Santo dead now? Thanks...JH
