Your first stop should be Scotty's Music site. You can check the links at the top of the page for more. Scotty's C6th basic book is very good. Next would be Cindy Cashdollars DVD or VHS on C6th. You can find it at Homespun tapes or many music stores, ebay, etc. That should get you started.

Good luck!

Also don't forget to search this SGF for "6th tuning". There's TONS of info right here on the SGF.

Aloha,
DT~

Hi Mike -
Also Denny is being too modest. Check out his web pages at: http://www.dennysguitars.homestead.com/lessonsindex1.html

There is a wealth of information there.

On a personal note, I have a terrible time getting anywhere with C6 but when I changed it down a minor third to A6, the commonality with 6 string spanish guitar tuning made it "open up" for me quite a bit. When I could reference the top string as E then I had a starting point.

Sometimes just finding that little gap in the wall will let some light thru.

Merry Christmas, all.

Definitely this modal theory thread is super powerfull.

I was looking at it from a 10 string D-10 neck persective at the time,
but I later picked up a Supro and suddenly all this stuff just appeared when I was jamming.

Follow this as much as you can and try as many examples as you can... and don't worry if it is a month down the line and you ain't through ti...
This baby is BIG.

I also just put it towards the FAQ section, as I have occasionally given in a bump so it don't get too far down or forgotten.

Paul,

It can be a real chore for spanish guitarists to get used to visualizing the C6 fretboard layout when playing. It was for me for quite awhile; To the point that when I started playing steel at gigs, I tuned my Rick D10-8 with E13 on the 10 neck and C6 on the 8 neck ...just so I could jump to the E neck when I got lost! ...yet still forge ahead seeking out whatever the C6 had to offer. For the C6 tuning, I think it helps to memorize and work with the mental picture of where the C6, Eb6, F6, and G6 postions are; The C, F, and G for their I, IV, V relationships, and the Eb because it is the Cmin7 chord position and serves as a good eyeball marker. All the other chords and scales seem to fall into that eyeball armature rather easy.

A person having trouble working C6 can always re-gauge the strings and tune E6 and be right in sync with the spanish guitar neck's E-type barre chords positions. Tommy Morrel (and a number of other Steelers) tunes E13 (E6 with a b7 added in the low octave on steels with 7 or more strings) ...and steel playing and tone don't get much better than Tommy's!

Aloha,
DT~

I haven't found much instructional material for c6th non pedal, compared to the instructional material and TAB available for E9th. I wish someone would do a very long and very extensive DVD. So many of them are so short or such beginers stuff, Or they do the same old tunes. I think Cindy Cashdollar and Herb Remmington both spend a lot of time doing San antonio Rose.

From the TAB I've seen I would like to see Herb Stiener do the DVD with Ricky Davis or something like that. Split a four hour DVD. Directly market it. Make it more than a normal person could absorb in a year. Tons of quick scale positions, chord substitutions, three hundred licks...

Just Wishing!
