It just dawned on me that the easiest way to let everybody find out how cool the Leavitt tuning really is, is to let you try it out. It's too much trouble to put it on the forum so I thought,"Why not just e-mail a tune to whoever wants one"
So, if you'd like a complete copy of "Moonlight in Vermont", leave your e-mail address here and I'll send you and e-mail with the song attached. Try it, you'll like it!! [This message was edited by Mike Ihde on 23 January 2000 at 01:01 AM.] |

I tuned my 6-string lap to the Leavitt tuning a while ago and have enjoyed messing around with it. I'd like to take you up on this offer please Mike.
Thanks,

The leavitt tuning has opened all kinds of musical doors for me. I can't leave it alone.
I'm also going to use it on one of my ten string peddle steels, but I'm going to raise it a third(with an F# on top) and then extend it down to an A on the bottom.this however is not etched in stone. Thanks again for your generous offer, Mike.
All the best,-Andy |

Mike,
I received the tab today and it's very hip. Thanks a lot. Have you (or anyone else) considered publishing an instructional guide for the Leavitt tuning? I'd like to see some more theory behind the tuning as well as some chord charts. I'm obviously too lazy to figure this out myself. |

Don,
Mel Bay was very interested in a book on the Leavitt tuning but because all the tunes both Bill and I had arranged were standards, there would be copyright problems and they didn't want to deal with paying royalties on each tune. I have thought of producing it myself but I'm not convinced there is enough interest yet. Hopefully, through vehicles like the Forum and SGW magazine, I will reach more people and it will become a project worth doing.

Can I have a copy too please Mike.
I've only been on 8 strings for a couple of weeks so I've not got too much to unlearn if it seems as if Leavitt tuning is more versatile.

Cheers! |

Mike,
The Leavitt tuning is new for me: looks like a good piece for a first attempt. Thanks for sharing it.

Mike, I'd like a copy, too, but why not post it in tab format to the "Share A Lick" forum? I'll be happy to help out with any translation needed.

Mike, Got the tab but the printer chops off the last bar at the right margin on the print out. Could you resend it to me at "kdail86024@aol.com"... please if it is not too much trouble. This may not work either but I would like to try it. I tried reducing the font but that didn't help. Thanx...

I sent you an email, but in case it misses, I would like a copy of the tab and, does it reflect the tuning? If not, could you include it. Many thanks, Jim Saunders |

Kenny,
I made the pages smaller and resent it. Let me know if it prints OK. The tuning is listed on the side of the TAB but in case you can't read it, here it is from low to high...

I had the opportunity to try the Leavitt tuning to-day after receiving "Moonlight in Vermont" from Mike.
It is a whole new world and a beautifull one at that. I love this sound.
I just retuned a few strings on my back E6th neck and was in business. For those of you with no lap steel but have a C6th tuning somewhere you can easily change over to try Mikes Arrangement.
Example:
Here are the C6th notes first followed by the Leavitt: ( High to Low )-----
C6th E C A G E C
Leavitt D C Bb G E C#
As you can see, a three string adjustment.
For those who like the Jazz chord sound or just something away from the norm....Don't miss out on Mikes offer for the free tab.
Many thanks Mike.

If anyone has had a problem opening the attachment "Standard List Text" which lists all the other arrangements and cassettes, it was created with Claris Works. If you can't open it, let me know and I'll try a different approach.
To all who have e-mailed a thank you back to me....Thanks, I'm glad you liked it, I knew you would.[This message was edited by Mike Ihde on 25 January 2000 at 06:17 PM.] |
