By accident I found I have this tuning available on strings 12 thru 5 on my S12ext by pressing a couple of pedals.

The tuning is actually 3 notes lower but I showed it with A as lowest note for easy comparison with A C C# E G A C E.

I tried some searches on the forum to see if I could find any variations for the top string but could not find any.
I have tried several musical ideas and it does not feel at all bad to have that Eb note note on top and if I want the E I could let go of one of the pedals pressed.

Question: A C C# E G A C Eb is a normal variation of A C C# E G A C E or is the Eb on top a "not so good note"??

My first thought would be a C 6th with the added C# (C6th + 7)instead of tuning up the C they just added a string for C#. The Eb should probably just be an E. With 12 strings there a more options.

I don't know if it's "normal" or not, but i have used this type of tuning on an 8 string. It's a C major tuning if you use the middle strings and a C minor/F9 tuning if you use the high strings. I've also done it the other way, with a Eb in the middle and the E natural on top (but no C#). If you are playing swing/ blues your tuning is is a good one since you can play the I chord and the IV7 chord in the same position.

If you lower the top (E) to Eb, then you could also add the middle (E) raising to (F). On my last PSG I had the standard pedal-change Raising the top-(E) to (F) and Lowering the middle-(E) to Eb and then a knee-lever doing just the opposite! You can also just Lower both E's to Eb or just raise the middle-(E) to (F)! I also had the middle-(E) raising to (F) alone on an extra-pedal. You can view the whole set up if you click here and scroll down.

I should probably have mentioned that this order of notes happen on my Extended E9 guitar and not my C6.

It is possible for me to raise the middle E a halftone by releasing a knee lever but for the moment I will explore those 8 strings as if I had no pedals/levers. I just thought the tuning as I got looked very similar to the
A C C# E G A C E found in other posts here, and wondered if there was a normal variation to lower the top string a half tone?
I do like blues and swing type musical styles and minor6th voicings that might be why I feel comfortable with an Eb on top.
