I've been enjoying the new issue of the Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association's magazine. I love the pictures from the St. Louis Convention and John Ely's article on Bobby Black. I especially appreciate the extra effort that John added to publish my arrangement of Nuages. Thanks for a fine issue, and keep up the good work.

I agree Chuck. The printed tab for your arrangement of Nuages really came out great in the Fall 2004 Quarterly. It's very easy to read and play.

Thanks for contributing your great rendition of this tune. It really works well as a steel tune.

Here is a video of Django, Stephanne Grapelli and the Hot Club of France.

Scroll down until you find the Django clip.

I've listened to Django for 30 years and today was the first time I've seen him in action. To me he was always a black & white still photo that made incredible music.

The Internet is amazing!

Wow! That's the first time I've seen video of him too. It's amazing that even after his accident causing impairment to his hand, he was still a virtuoso! Some of the best jazz ever played came from Django.

The thing that amazed me about Django and Stephane and the Hot Club is how young they were. None of them looked to be more than thirty.

Gosh-danged kids with their noisy guitars and fiddles!

Wow! What a find - worth sitting through the sleazy ad. I've seen two other films of Django but nothing anywhere near this length and quality. Super!! Now if only we could unearth some in performance Joaquin or McIntire!

Jeff, you played a beautiful arrangement of this tune at Joliet last month.

Here's another version:

J'Attendrai - Roland Peachey With His Royal Hawaiians

Roland Peachey steel and vocals. Cool stuff.

I want to go out for the evening and hear THIS band.

Nobody names their kid Roland Peachey anymore

You can view a movie of Roland Peachy playing "La Rosita" from 1938 on your computer (if you have Windows media viewer)!

This link may work: http://www.itnarchive.com/cgi-bin/taweb.exe?x=d&o=d&q=(peachy)&d=BPATHE&i=34127&p=1&t=doc.tmpl&v=tabbed

If not, go to www.itnarchive.com
You'll need to register there as a private user (free)
Click on the "British Pathe" tab, then search on Roland Peachy and you'll find a link for "Roland Peachy and Band"

Roland Peachey "La Rosita"...

I've always wanted to figure out this tune. All this time I thought he was playing it on a single neck six string. He's got a triple neck guitar and he's jumping between all necks!

Thanks for the video Bill, and thanks for dashing my hopes of working out the tune.

BTW - Rudy Starita & Pee Wee Herman, separated at birth?

Seems to me like all the necks are tuned the same, and he's jumping around for dramatic effect only!

I love the split-screen shots, mirroring, the dancers, etc. That clip is priceless!

Roland Peachey is a new name to me. What a smooth player! An older post says he used palm levers to change the pitch of some of his strings. Anyone ever seen what it looked like? This must have been hand made and predated the DeArmond Stringtone and Triplex type devices.
