I have had the same problem. Dry air in Colorado seems to be the culprit. I use Dunlap plastic pics now. They set up higher and I love the tone.

You don't have to feel like you've been assimilated by the Borg (arcane Star Trek reference)
Just line your picks with those little nosepad things they make for eyeglasses. Drugstores sell packages of them. It takes 3 pads to line the inside of a pick, and not only is it suddenly quite comfortable, it's also held firmly in place (without digging in).
You'll have to redo them periodically, so stock up on the nosepads!
