Much to my surprise I opened the new Elderly catalog and discovered they are selling "Weissenborn®" guitars. (We've been referring to them here by another name: GoldTone.)
I know that GoldTone owns the trademark, and there is no attempt to deceive anyone, but I hate to see such a venerable name on such a marginal product.

Hm..... On the Elderly website their still refered to as "Gold Tone Weissenborn Style x"...
I agree, it would be too bad if the same thing happen to "Weissenborn" as happened to "Dobro". What should we call them then,- Weissenstyle Guitars?

Everything's for sale...even a name. I wouldn't buy or play one based on that alone. Look what they done with the Epiphone name.
Support your local luthier or buy vintage. |

| I agree with Mike, support your local luthier but not all vintage is good. I've owned a couple of vintage weissenborns, one was just ok and the other was a dog. There are some really fine local weissenborn copys being built these days at half the price of the originals, they just don't have the resale value. |

I agree with Mike too, support the local luthiers! There are some great Weiss guitars being built at very reasonable prices here in the States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand too. For me the resale aspect is no big deal as I buy for the playing and not as an investment. Nothing wrong with that, just not a consideration for me.

| The Weissenborn name ties to GoldTone's partnership with John Pearse, who's had it registered for several years and has brought out or nearly brought out W. guitars by a number of manufacturing partners over the years. |
