Just starting posting here and am new to the steel scene. I know that refinish jobs on vintage Fenders, Gibsons, Martins can hurt the price by up to 1/2 maybe more. Is this also true for re-plating Nationals. I've been looking for a nice vintage roundneck Tricone any may have located a possibility. It has been re-plated though. If it does have bearing on price what would the $$$ difference be between a good playing all original '35 tricone (no engraving) and the same guitar professionally re-plated? I'm talking a person to person deal. Not dealer prices. Thanks in advance for your help.

The bottom line is-The asking price is what you will pay.Apparently you want it for personal use, so you are lucky to even find one. My suggestion - Buy it Play it. It won't lose any value. Ed Naylor Steel Guitar Works.

Yes,......if it's a wooden one.

My opinion is that practcally any moderation of an original vintage instrument will affect its value....to a collector.

The same guitar in excellent original condition will be worth more as condition is everything....to a collector.

Ed is right IMO. If you are buying it mainly as your working ax, that is the important factor. If it has the sound and tone you are seeking, that is also most important.

Make the best deal you can. Tell the seller that since it has been re-plated, it does not have the value of the original condition.

Good luck. Let us know how this turns out.

Welcome to the forum.

Was it nickel-plated or chrome plated? That might make a big difference. You might want to ask on this forum;
