Check out this story about the Sheerhorn guitars made close by http://tennessean.com/features/ us here in Nashville. The guy is dedicated and it sounds like there's going to be a new more affordable Sheerhorn on the market pretty soon!

I wonder if Jerry Douglas has to wait 4 years for a Scheerhorn?
Not knocking, just wondering. |

Is Jerry stiil PLAYING the Scheerhorn all the time? Between the Gibsons, his new Guernsey(I think)---would he need another Scheerhorn?
And could he get it tomorrow, or would he have to wait a week or two? |

That was a great article. I know Mike Johnson just put an order in for a Scheerhorn, and he acted like it was going to be quite a wait! According to Mike, Tim had done some resonator work on his Ped-a-Bro, (same goes for Mike Holder, before he sold his) and made them sound fantastic.
Here I was excited with my Paul Beard/Goldtone...

I'm curious....the Pedabro has not so great acoustic qualities when played without amplification.
What could Mr. Scheerhorn do to make a Pedabro sound fantastic? It's quite a different breed than an acoustic resonator.[This message was edited by HowardR on 01 September 2004 at 05:15 AM.] |

The way that both Mike Johnson and Mike Holder explained it to me was that Mr. Franklin didn't really use (or maybe know the difference - not being a "dobro" maker) top-of-the line resonator parts when he made the Ped-a-Bro.
I believe they said, he replaced the cone, and added baffels (sp?), etc.
They said the difference was incredible, but have not heard either guitar live. Of course, Mike Johnson last played his on the song "Long Black Train", which come to think of it, sounded bigger and fuller...
Just passing along what I have heard,

I think I heard somewhere that Hal Rugg had taken the electronics out of his Pedalbro???
Anybody else heard this? |

Some of the simple things Tim did to my pedabro were, add a quarterman cone, make sure the spyder was level all around on all points, insure the bridge clamped tightly to the spyder and finally he shaved a very little bit off of the cross bar under the finger bars that pull the strings to make the strings put a touch more pressure on the resonator which enhanced the sustain of the instrument and eliminated the majority of the string buzz. i feel Paul Sr. and Tim both make the very best instruments i've ever had the pleasure to own and play and Tim's respect for Paul's ingenuity offered us an oppourtunity to make something that was perfect just a little more so. I've owned 2 franklin pedal steels, 1 pedabro and currently own 1 scheerhorn resonator guitar which have all taken time to receive but have all been worth the wait, I encourage anyone who's serious about thier craft to purchase from Paul or Tim, the results are gauranteed satisfaction.
