For several months now, I've been working with Marie & McGregor Gaines on the complete redesign of National Reso-Phonic's website. We've been having a great time in the process. We've come up with a site that should be easier to navigate and a heck of a lot more fun. It's about 90% done. (That reminds me of a saying in the interactive multimedia community that goes something like: "You get the first 90% done, and the remainder of the job takes the other 90%." That seems to be the case, too, in learning a piece of music flawlessly, effortlessly, and expressively -- something I'm rediscovering as I put together my concert for Ireland.)
Anyway, we're a couple of weeks away from the test site becoming the real site, but I wanted you SGF folks (and my pals on Resoguit) to get a first look at it and let me know how you like it, how easy it is to navigate, how it runs on your computer (those with 333Mz machines and lower will find the animations pretty clunky), and whether it takes too much time to load (dialup folks will find some long load times, but I have given you two cartoon characters to commiserate with as you wait. One character is sitting around waiting for the page to load, and another is waiting for the sound to play. Just like you might be -- until you lose all patience.). So tell me what your experience on the site is like. Did you get lost? Did you get irritated? Discouraged? If you do find strange things happening, like everything is the size of a postage stamp, or whatever, it's most helpful to me if you describe it as accurately as possible, and tell me the browser you're using (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla, Opera, Safari, etc.), and your operating system (Windows MX, 2000, ME; Mac OS 9.1, OSX, etc.), and your screen resolution (800x600, 1024x768, etc.), if that info is readily accessible to you. You will need the Flash player plug-in for your browser, but 98% of the world's desktop computers have Flash installed.
So, let me know what your experience is (either here on the forum or by email). This will be really helpful to me, and you might find it fun. Keep an eye out for "Easter eggs" -- places you roll over or click where unexpected things happen. Ron Bednar already knows where most of them are, so I'm expecting him to keep the places secret for a while.
The old site is www.nationalguitars.com
The site that you get a first peek at is:

Pete

Yikes! I can't access it at all. (Mac G-4, IE-4 or 5, AOL user) It keeps starting pop-up after pop-up that won't load and won't close either. I couldn't even get back here so I ended up having to just shut the browser down completely and re-boot.
Strange since your site works fine for me Pete.

In keeping with the National tradition, how absolutely cool.
I really like the site. It is easy to navigate and the pictures and graphics are outstanding.
Makes me want to buy another National.

Hi Pete -
Looks like a nice page, but in Netscape 7.1 it appears to have some incompatiblity.
The page is so small I can't read it, but from what I can see, it looks pretty neat.
The entire page of graphics is compressed into the upper left corner of the page about 1" square.

That's true - in Netscape it's a postage stamp in the upper left hand corner. In Internet Explorer it works great.
A Baritone Tricone? It's a must have !

Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies. Now I'll go about fixing the anomalies.
Sorry I haven't yet gotten back to any of you directly. The very next morning I was down for the count with the flu. I'm just now slowly wandering back into the land of the living. |
