Any stores around the mid west that have a number of squarenecks on display, so a guy can try several and get a little feel for a good instrument? Talking good quality instuments, not the Regals or other generally lower level instruments. Thanks!

I'd say Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan is a best bet.
Most stores have one or two good instruments - Music Folk in St. Louis is one example - but most stores can't afford to keep the inventory you're seeking in a smaller market.
