Hey Rick, that steel looks better & better with each new picture that you post. How about calling it "The Elliecaster"? (Or would that be trademark infringement?)

Thats funny .. I was thinking of callin' it a "Sandcaster" ...

When Jason Lollar saw one of the plaster mothers ... he called it a Plastercaster

Well, the family voted ... they said "lose the teardrop shape" ... so its officially a "Pan" now ...

Gonna start puttin' in the hardware soon ...

Its now 8.5 lbs.

Peter, I stored that graphic you put up several months ago ... now this ... you're too funny

I am working on a plan so I don't have to do all this "shaping" ... for the "future casts" ...

This filin'/grindin'/sandin' is way more work than I wanted to do ...

Live and learn ...

Thanks for all the nice comments ...

Headstock came out real nice, Rick.

I say stay away from anything with "caster" in it.

How about naming it in tribute to Andy, Dick, Kelii and Sol? Hmmmm. (Or how about Dustpan or DustyPan?)

Rick,

Mighty fine stuff. Kudos.

I occasionally wondered ...and now seems opportune to ask if you might know: Might Alumalloy work as a pit filler ...worked in with a butane torch ...and if so is Alumalloy softer than casting alloys, for easier buffing?

If not, then might silver or silver solder work as a filler, softer than the casting alloy?

Thank You,
Aloha,
DT~

I get this automotive body shop catalog. It's got a couple of things like that ... propane torch and aluminum rods, etc.

Chas recommended tig welding ...

But most are just tiny holes ... throughout the entire body. It was due to the open casting procedure.

The A356 cooled way faster than in a traditional cope/drag. It was a cool, breezy day too

There would have been alot more if I had used "traditional green sand" (water, sand, clay) ... but the oil based Petrobond doesn't steam ... just some "exhaust"

I'll tell ya' though ... I have it hangin' on a String Swing and when you rap it with the backside of a screwdriver ... it rings out somewhere between a church bell and a wind chime.

None of my other steels do that ...

I don't know if its good or bad, but its real pretty soundin'.

I think having millions of tiny holes (literally) throughout may have something to do with it ... ????
