I forgot to mention. This amp sounds great. It does have a little hum.The speakers are as strong. No problems. It's all original except for the tubes, handle and power chord. I'm sure some of you guys would want to recap it and install the tubes of your choice. But I can't think of anything else that needs to be changed.Regards..Bobby

Bobby, that's a steel of a deal. It looks like a virgin piece inside, all original caps, etc. I would not be surprised to see this go up to $1800 on Ebay! I have a 1964 and a 1967, both the sweetest guitar amps I have ever had.

Bobby,
If I didn't have 4 Super Reverbs (65, 66, 68 & 65RI) I'd buy it. I just love the punch of a Super Reverb, one of the best amps Fender made. Collectors like to see all of those original caps, my 65 was all original like that but it needed a cap job. What is the hole in the chassis between the preamp tubes for?

Good luck!!

I do not know.My dad's best friend bought the amp new in 65.He passed in 2000.I bought the amp from his widow last August.I believe the hole was there when it left the factory. But do not know for sure.I can't imagine why someone would bore one there.Any of you Fender gurus have any thoughts on this. Thanks ..bb

I've owned 3 Super Reverbs, the current being a 66. I also repair amps for 3 local music stores. I've repaired and/or restored close to a dozen SR's from the '64 model thru the 70's machines.
I have never seen a chassis hole in that position, and I can't imagine what it could have possibly been put there for.
Being that close to the speaker output jack, one possibility may have been a line out tap from the output transformer. Does it look scratched or marred in a circular pattern around the hole? Like an output jack/plug may have been installed there?
It's a real mystery.

If someone doesn't pick this up for 1200 I will be surprised. I have one already and could never part with it.

I hope this helps...

The speakers are a matching set of CTS speakers made in the 9th week of 1965

"CTS: CTS (Chicago Telephone Supply!) speakers were used occasionally in Fender amps until the mid-1960s. These are good quality speakers that tonally lie between Jensens and Oxfords. The alnico 10-inch CTS speaker was the most prevalent speaker in Super Reverbs from the mid-1960s through the 1970s."

Understand this amp needs to be retubed even though I'm playing thru it every day.Note picture of the ugly power chord. This low price is good for only 48hrs. from the time of this post.Thanks...bb

Edit The lower price offer has now expired. The amp is once again priced at $1400 + UPS shipping.I plan to list the amp on other sites maybe even E-bay.However should a Forum member buy it first the sales fee goes to the Forum. Thanks ....bb

Bob,
Jensens were not used by Fender in Super Reverbs during this time period so I assume you are referring to the reissue Jensens. My 65 had these same speakers and although they sounded good I removed them to preserve them and the value of the amp and installed a set oc Jensen C10Q speakers. If I was to attempt to make a comparison I would say that these are maybe not as bright as the alnico reissue Jensen P10R and are more like the ceramic C10Q (which is why I chose them).
The huge plus here is that this amp still has the original speakers in a matching quad.

Funny thing about vintage gear -- it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

I've yet to find any gear that is worth more than someone is willing to pay for it.

I've had several offers of $1200 + freight.Sorry but it's going to take $1300 + UPS freight.
It's most likely to late to get it by Christmas. But you could have it in time to help you get over those post Christmas blues. Thanks..........bb

Hey BB, maybe you should just take the $1200... what are you doing - going out of business? You're right about the car business, though... you know the disclaimer at the bottom of the ads "...this offer expires 00/00/00. Seems to me if you really cared about giving a deal to your close personal friends at the SG Forum, you'd graciously accept $1200 and not grind 'em for another $100. Then again... good luck to ya'
