I'm listening to volume 1 of the Cumquat Records Dick McIntire series of CDs as I type this. Even though Cumquat was running a special last month, I wasn't ready to take the plunge and order all 6 of the Dick McIntire or Andy Iona CDs. So instead, I ordered "Radio Sol" and "Honey, Let's Go For Broke."

What great music! Both CDs capture the transition between acoustic and electric Hawaiian playing - when electric still had a lot of single note runs, and before it became more "smooth" and chordal.

I'm definitely going to buy more Cumquats!

I'd also recommend checking out the Al Kealoha Perry CDs with David Keli'i. And I can't forget to mention the Augie Goupil CD.

Cumquat is getting ready for another Sol Hoopii release, and from what I've been told, 3 volumes more of Andy Iona and Dick McIntire.

This is truly my favorite period of Hawaiian steel guitar, and American music in general.
