I was driving in my car last Sunday listening to an "oldies" station and this song came on. It's the 1964 Peter and Gordon hit 'A World Without Love'. It sounded like it would fall nicely under the fingers in a C6 tuning (CEGACE).

I recorded the tune as a duet with my Bakelite Rick and Kamaka soprano uke handling the melody line. I used a 1971 Martin D-18 to get that "jangly" 60's rhythm guitar sound. Band In A Box did the bass and percussion. A Shure SM-57 recorded all the instruments.

I've always heard this song as a Bossa Nova, hence the Latin percussion.

One thing I never knew... this tune was written by Lennon & McCartney and given to Peter and Gordon (Paul was dating Peter's sister at the time. The Beatles dated???). It's obvious by listening to the chord progression that this is definitely a Beatles tune.

Nicely done Gerald. I am enjoying the "Hawaiian Steel Backup Tracks that you sent me. Although my main interest has been pedal steel, I have recently started working on my old lap steels. I have two old bakelite Ricks and an eight string walnut body Magnatone that I bought in about 1958. Thanks again for the Tracks. George
