Lots of very lush strings? (violins, not ukes).

Very lush arrangement of Hana?

I'm betting that you have the classic Felix Slatkin Orchestra album "Paradise Found".

Alan Akaka once told me he was very inspired and influenced by Jules Ah See's playing of Hana (aka Paradise Found) on that particular disk.

Gerald's probably right. Here are the cuts:

Paradise Found Moon Of Manakoora, My Litte Grass Shack, My Isle Of Golden Dreams, Hawaiian Wedding Song, Hukilau Song, To You Sweetheart Aloha, Sweet Leilani, Little Brown Gal, Paradise Found, Hiilawe, Beyond The Reef, and Aloha Oe.

I don't know the business/politics behind the production of this album. I wouldn't be suprised if it boiled down to Felix Slatkin wanting a free, all expenses paid trip to Hawaii, so he lobbied the record company for the money to produce this project.

I don't know how much of a success this project was. But I do know that this album is not available in all the Felix Slatkin reissues that are currently available.

This recording frequently pops up on Ebay but mostly in reel to reel format.

Hey... I spoke too soon. Here's an LP copy on Ebay.

I've had that album for years, ever since the day it became available. I never tire of listening to it. I am not overly sure if Jules could ever read music, but with his great talent, who would care ? He could produce and man, this is one beautiful example of his sweet work !
