I am looking for some good cowboy band CDs.
Hopefully both some "modern" and old time ones.
Thanks for any tips!
Bob

Anything the "Sons of the Pioneers" ever did! I think "Cool Water", for one, is available on cd.

Ian Tyson (the "Ian" of "Ian and Sylvia", and the composer of "Someday Soon" and "Four Strong Winds", to name a couple) has recorded a number of latter-day Cowboy albums. Most notable, perhaps, is "Cowboyography", but "I Outgrew the Wagon", "Sixteen Inches of Rain", "Lost Herd" and "Old Corral and Sagebrush" are others that come to mind. He co-wrote some good tunes with Tom Russell - a fine American songwriter who has also written his share of Cowboy material.

Check out Wylie and the Wild West. I played steel and dobro for 5 years in that group. Great country and western style cowboy music. Especially the early cd's from the 90's. Duane Becker

Bob - Check out Don Edwards, Red Stegall and Michael Martin Murphy, these guys are keeping it Cowboyed Up. They do a tour around the country and of course Red Stegall has his annual cowboy gathering in Fort Worth, Texas every year. Don Edwards has been doing the Cowboy singing for a whole lot of years. Michael Martin Murphy does a great Cowboy Christmas show every Christmas also. Not sure what label these guys have but your nearest record shop, or maybe even go on line and check out Ernest Tubb Record shop (they have one in Nashville and one in Fort Worth Texas) if you call the Texas ET Record shop ask for A.J. and tell her I sent you, she knows her music, and she can also direct you to all the great cowboy singers. The number to the Fort Worth ET's is 817-624-8449. Good luck. Hope that helps.

I've been working with Archie Francis who's finishing a CD of original cowboy songs. Great, great stuff, and not to mention JAY DEE MANESS is playing steel and dobro on it, and AL BRUNO is playing some great guitar.

He's about ready to master, so I don't know when it's coming out, but it should be fairly soon. And it's coming out great.

And oh yeah, Jay Dee's as good as ever.
