Merle and the Strangers were in great form last night at the Crystal Palace. Merle was pretty nostalgic about the "Bakersfield" Sound and paid a heart-felt tribute to Buck and Bonnie Owens. Stranger Kenny Vernon sang two of Buck's earliest hits "Excuse Me I Think I've Got A Heartache" and "Under Your Spell Again". Norm Hamlet played great...just like Mooney did back then.

I finally got to meet Norm after the show. What a legend and gentleman. I can't think of anybody who's been with one artist longer then Norm has....36 years !!

I hope that somebody nominates him soon for the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame. He is very deserving.

See ya.

i've opened for merle several times in one band or another and it is always an honor. ever notice how soft and comfortable their onstage volume is? why can't bands i play with do that?
norm is a true legend in the steel world and should be hof material. he is the nicest gentleman i've ever met ('course so is bobby black). it's always a treat to find out that these guys who've shaped the music world will even talk to me.

I got to chat with Norm at the ISGC. Turns out he and I had the same steel instructor: Vance Terry. He palyed a set with some Canadian guys including Steve Pitico which was straight up early Merle stuff. Fantastic!!
