Hello all. Could someone recommend a good instructional video for the E13 tuning 8 string non-pedal steel? I'd like to find something that goes over licks and techniques for an intermediate to advanced player. I've been playing pedal steel for a while and I just want to avoid a lesson that goes over hand position, selecting your picks, and other excruciating beginning details. Possibly someone here on the forum has run across a video that is packed with killer licks and smart pointers. If the same video should touch on C6 as well, that would be cool too, however I'm attempting to conquer one neck at a time and there's 4 necks here in front of me. . . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Aaron

Well the first question is: which E13 are you using? I'd guess the "Leon McAuliffe" one, E G# B D F# B C# E, low to high? in which case, you're out of luck! As far as I know, there is NO instructional material on this tuning.
IF your E13 is B D E G# B C# E G# low to high, (Don Helms/Roy Wiggins version), then its the same note layout as the C6 with an E on top, and you can certainly get instructional books from Scotty's, maybe videos too...
Use the forum search function for extensive discussions of the various E13 versions.
Good luck!
Nick

Scroll down to "Your Cheatin' Heart". It's Don Helms E13 edited and compiled by Scotty. It's not a video, but a very nice tab book and tape.

I'd second the advice to get the "Cheatin' Heart" Helms book. Very well done, and eye-opening in the way Don gets around using slants. A lot of good information.
