I'd like to give a big welcome the the Steel Guitar Forum to Steve Silver from California. Steve posted on another thread and I was happy to see him still around. A little history on him (as far as I know it)......
I first met Steve around 1971 or so when I was at the Swizzle Stik in Huntington Beach Calif. Steve would come to our jam session on Sunday nights with this Fender pedal steel which looked like it was homemade and wouldn't hardly stay in tune. He played pretty horrible in those days but we let him set in anyway as the bandstand's the best place to learn and he was a very nice young man. Only about 5 or 6 years later he had turned himself into a very formidable steel player and went to work with us six nights a week. By this time he'd aquired a ZB double ten and played both necks very well. He left the Stik and went to work with two very well known female acts of the day, Barbie Benton and Mary Kay Place. All in all he was/is a very good player and I'm happy to see him on the Forum.......Welcome Steve!

Welcome Steve. I have often wondered about you. You bought a Sho-Bud D10 permanent from me in Ohio in the early 70s when you were in town with Barbie B. I have since moved to Texas. Good to see you are still picking. |

Franco,
I was born & raised in Columbus, Ohio but got here as quick as I could in 1966 with Uncle Sam's help.
We are planning on going to Mesa, good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Jerry,
I have a pic here of "those" days....leisure suits and all at the Stik. That was a great year in the band btw, and I always enjoyed playing with you cause you knew about that special relationship a guitar player and steel player can have in a band. BTW, I bought that Fender from Blackie Taylor and yea, it wasn';t the best guitar in the world, but hey, Sneaky played one, and since he was such a great early influence, I had to have one too. I wonder what ever happened to that ZB....it was one of the most beautiful steels I have ever seen.
Roger.....Wow, so cool of you to recall that guitar. Man, I wished I had it now. As you know, but many ther don't, that guitar was custom built for Buddy Charleton and had a plaque on the front so saying. I traded that guitar to Scotty a couple of years later for a 66 Emmons....that piece is long gone too.

Hey Steve, I'll bet you remember this event. To everyone else this shows how cool a guy Steve is. We worked six nights a week and had a different leisure suit and shirt for each night. On Halloween we all dressed up in costumes except for Steve. He came in his dang leisure suit! When asked about it he said "To me this is a freakin' costume".........I couldn't have agreed more.........JH in Va.
