I heard from my local fender dealer that there is a new square neck model added to Fender's FR- series of resonator guitars. I haven't seen or heard one yet, but I guess it's just a square neck version of the FR-50. I'm about to buy an inexpensive reso guitar (I'm mainly a peddler, just wanting to try it out) and the two strongest candidates for me are the Regal RD-45 and this new Fender. What I wonder is if anyone has played one of these new Fender SN guitars? What about the hardware, does Fender use better cones, spiders etc. than Regal/Saga? Which one would be a better buy?

Check into the Regal "Black Lightning" reso.
It is a beautiful guitar and already comes upgraded with a Quarterman cone and misc.
I paid $600 for mine with a hard shell case and shipping.

Run away from the Fender, they are built without any real internal structure and are a poor choice for modding. You're better off with an older Regal. Or do what Erv suggests.

Ill second the "run away from Fender" cry!
And agree (IMHO) that you would be much better off with a Regal in the same price range. The Black Lightning's not bad at all or the Regal-45,or the Regal-75(my favorite)
I personlly did not care for the Fender or Johnson's in this price range. Just my 2cents.
