Hello everybody. I'd just like to say how much I enjoy this site as it gives us steel pickers a good place to learn more and socialize with each other.
I pick Derby steel. I have a rosewood d-10 with 9 pedals and 7 knees. This was Ron Elliots old steel which he made his last cd with. I am 14 years old and i live in paintsville, ky. Ive played steel for 4 years and love them old country classics. I am getting ready to start my new cd in the next month.
I play steel mostly, but i play other instruments as well. I play drums, mandolin, piano, guitar, bass, and some others as well. I am currently playing doghouse bass with Souther Skye ( a kentucky teen bluegrass band) We will be playing at Dollywood's bluegrass and bbq festival sepy. 15-27.
I love Billy Cooper, Doug Jernigan, and of course the great Jeff Newman.
Well just thought I'd tell you a little about me and hope to hear some from other fellow steelers in the future.

Chris, welcome to the Forum,...and welcome to our world of steel guitar. I understand from the Derby Co. you've been playing for 4 years,..and Jerry Van Hoose has given you some great training..Jerry sure is a good one, and plays so well. I know you have my rosewood Derby...I'm so glad it is in such capable hands. It's a great guitar and I know you'll do well. Best of luck in your trip down the "highway" of steel guitar. Take care and stay in touch with us. Ron |

Welcome to the Forum Chris, it's good to see younger players like yourself get interested in steel guitar. Don't hesitate to ask lots of questions if you got em. Heck, you might have answers to some of my questions! |

Thanks everyone for the nice welcome.
Ron, I have to say I love the way you had the rosewood d-10 set up and I absolutely love those pickups. They give the best sound through my 112 and 1000.
I love your playing as well ron and i really admire your soft touch on the strings. I just lucked into getting your guitar. Charles Stepp had just had an offer on it and I saw it and bought it on the spot that day. (It was only about 1 week after you traded it.)
If anyone would like to email me and talk my email is ki4boq@yahoo.com
Once again thanks to everyone for the nice warm welcome!

Welcome to the fold Chris. My family was in Paintsville 2 summers ago, on a detour from Myrtle Beach to Buffalo, NY. Got to see Butcher Holler too. The wife still gets seasick on the swinging bridge... |

Hi Chris, I am new on the forum , got in 8-22-06. I started pickin at age 10, ( But that was 70 years ago now ) My Dad was a Fiddle player, for the old square dances back then, He traded for an Old flat top guitar, my fingers was just to small to make the chords, So Dad whittled out a piece of wood, and made a nut, to rase the strings, tuned it in E,chord, I used a pocket knife for a Bar, to note it with, I did grow up with the Pedal Steel, as they started adding strings, pedals, electric pick ups, tried all the gizmos, I now just use, 2 knee levers, and the two ,Home Pedals, on my S-10 Emmons, ( 6 foot pedals, 2 Knee Levers ) used the same Emmons for over 30 years now, It has paid for a lot of ,Bacon, and Beans.
Another Steel Friend

Thanks guys for the welcome. I started picking when I was 9. My granpa tought me Patsy Cline's "I Fall To Pieces" and I started to get interested in steel. After I got into the KY OPRY, I decided I really wanted to learn to play steel. This is when I kicked back into gear about 2 years ago. Since then steel and other instruments have been my life. I am currently in Dollywood playing with Southern Skye (a youth bluegrass band) I play upright bass with them.
Well I have to go, but feel free to email me any time whether you have questions or just want to talk. I would like to meet some other pickers.
Thanks for the welcome.
