Does anybody have the video of Charley's appearance on the Welk show with Lloyd Green?
I saw it once but didn't think to record it.

Very nice footage. Charlie had an edge to him back then. This is the first bit of old footage I've ever seen of him. He had attitude!

He usually said, "O Lloyd". Here he says, "Gene O". Cool.

Scott,

Thanks for posting this, brings back alot of great memories. Gene, plus my old boss introducing Charley at the Opry.

Yep, it was Gene, and yep, he played all the right licks. He did that alot. Hey Richard, can't you just hear Gene sayin', What ya expect, an amateur? Funny guy, great player, dear friend. I sure do miss him.

Does anybody know if this footage was from the Nashville 1969 DVD I've seen in stores lately?

Gene O'Neal, what a great steel player! There's a lick in "Kiss an Angel Good Morning, where his high notes decend, and his lower harmonies ascend ... over four notes, so special, and yet if you're not listening, it justs blends right in!

I miss the straight forward display of country steels, fiddles, and guitars from those days of old

Man it's true, Charley really had some fire in him, more spirit than 10 of today's young country-type singers combined. Gene O'neal sure does some fine picking too, pretty amazing how he nails the LG fills like he did.

Thanks for posting that, very inspiring and fun.

He almost has a (dare I say) Dylan-like intensity at times on this footage.

Thanks for the link, Archie; that might be the epitome of country steel guitar for me, right there.
