I SAW MICHEL LANDON IN 1965-66 ON A RODEO
TOUR WITH A BAND THAT PLAYYED THE THEME FROM
THE OLD BONANZA SERIES.--WOULD ANYONE KNOW
WHO THE STEEL PLAYER WAS AND THE TUNING HE PLAYED IT IN.

Now THERE is an example of an obscure question.
Not just the fact that Landon had a band, or who the steel player was-but what tuning he was using 40 years ago!

Shucks fellas, that was me on steel! Standard E9 tuning,(switched to the harp in 1972 though)

read on several occations on this website
of players be able to tell a certain tuning
just by listening,,hence the bonanza re-runs
were still running and i had hoped someone
with for more talant then myself might could help.----read on several occasions on
this websiteof players asking one an other
about who once played with old ''so and so
so i thought that one of the older players might could answer who this player might be.

I've noticed a lot of respected forumites go back even farther than that with their memories and stories. Most seem to applaud their efforts.

Now come on fellas, don't get your blood pressure up over my post-I did put the little smiley guy next to it to try to inject a little humor...
...and I am often amazed at the knowledge some of the members have about some pretty esoteric stuff that goes way back.
But come on, Michael Landon's band in 1965 on the rodeo circuit. Not just naming the player, but the fact that he may have been playing something other than E9th, and does someone have knowledge of the tuning stored in their memory banks?
If someone comes up with a legitimate answer about the tuning, let alone the player- that is going to be very impressive.
No disrespect intended-but I don't think using the word "obscure" in reference to the question is out-of-line.

| I never knew about the band nor do I know who the steel player was. Seeing the picture of "Hoss Cartwright" reminded me that he and my father were cousins. He is buried in Dekalb,Texas with just a simple headstone. The Bonanza series was a great western. It would be nice to know who was playing the steel for this band. |

| Pete doesn't claim that Michael Landon was IN a band, he says he saw him on tour WITH a band. Around the same time (1965) I saw the whole bunch (Lorne Greene, Pernell Roberts, Dan Blocker and Landon) at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo at Penrose stadium in Colorado Springs. They paraded around on horseback, waving to the folks in the bleachers. Don't recall any band, much less a steel guitar player, but shoot -! I was just a kid, and I was seeing REAL MOVIE STARS! |
