last week on the spur of the moment my wife and I decided to drive from Colorado to Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and along the way we stopped in Nasville Tenn. went to the country music hall of fame , its a nice place and then i came across this pretty steel guitar that once belonged to Buddy Emmons , well i told them that I was a picker too but you know that they would not move that danged glass outa my way so i could play it...i told them that i have been playing for almost 3 whole years but they still would'nt move that danged glass
so i had to settle for a picture of it .....sure seems a shame for it to just sit there and no one ever play it

I suppose they probably wouldn't let you play Mother Maybelle's original Gibson Archtop, or Bill Monroe's famous mandolin either...
Must be they're just not very nice people, I can't think of ANY other possible reason... |

| not only that, but they didn't know where Bobby seymores steel guitar store was ...and i thought these folks were supposed to know everything about country music...i did manage to find a record store with a BIG 6 string guitar sign ...i think the fella that owned it was named Earie or Earnest or something like that ..shucks i'll bet those folks over at the hall of fame didn't even know where that was |

Paul, i came thru ashville N.C.
i drove i-40 most of the way till i ran into a detour 1/2 between Knotville and Ashville then i think it was I-26 to Spartanburg
at any rate i ended up driving 4,644 miles round trip ( detoured down to Fl. after it started to rain in Myrtle beach ) ened up going to Pensacola then back home[This message was edited by Calvin Walley on 17 June 2006 at 07:57 PM.] |

BTW:
I was there a few weeks ago too and ogled the same guitar. But did you notice his name was emblazoned across the front "BuddIE"?

yea , and did you see that 4 neck steel of Barbra Mandrels ? first 4 neck i ever saw

you should have called Bobbe Seymour and drove over to his shop and visited with him. Easy ride from Nville...20/30 minutes max.
You would have seen "REAL" live Steel guitars, plenty of them , not behind glass either. |

Tony, if we had planned the trip i would have called Bobby and got directions, but it was a spur of the moment decision to go , when i asked where Bobbys place was at the hall of fame no body knew anything about it....go figure

I think that was for symmetry. It was either "ie" or drop the "s" from his last name.
I wonder, if Buddy had dropped the "s" from "Emmons", would people still say "Mullens"? |

| Awhile back I bought a Pete Drake CD at ET's record shop,but when I tried to take the glass cover off his guitar to play it,they ran me off,went on down to the Hard Rock Cafe,they charged me fifteen dollars for a BBQ sandwich,but would'nt let me play one of Bo Diddle's guitar even though it was hanging right over my table,then over to the museum and wanted to try on Marty Robbin's pink Nudie suit,again was escorted out,made it on over to Bobbe's,He gave me a big hug,let me play all the guitars I wanted to,gave me a free DVD and CD.So the next time I'm in NV,think I'll just hang out at Bobbe's. |

Tony,
I did head over to Bobbe's--even rented a car just to do it. I was so ga-ga from looking at all those steels and so charmed by Bobbe's hospitality that I left my briefcase there. (Why did I bring it in the first place??? Thought I could hide an Emmons in there? I dunno?). Dan who works there was kind enough to track down my home phone in NH, called my wife who called my friends in Nashville--I got the briefcase back.
I probably just wanted an excuse to go back!
