I'm sure everyone knows about ya. I just stumbled (and I mean stumbled) upon the band Hem on Musicmatch while looking for a song and was mesmerized by the style. Woodwinds, reed instruments, easy goin style, pretty vocals and then wham out of the ethereal sounscape comes the pedal steel! I had to buy that record (Eveningland) to add to my easy listening stuff (you know Sade, The Corrs etc..). There's only steel on a few tunes from what I'm hearing.

Just saw Bob play with "Hem" here in Nashville last week, he sounded great... Not "country" but not his wilder experimental stuff either, just pretty melodic steel in a pop context... Check them out if you get a chance, they're currently on a brief tour I think.

And he's a fun and funny guy to hang out with too...

I was in a video store one day, and one of the employees was playing Hem. Although I'd never heard Hem before then, I immediately assumed it was Bob Hoffnar. He plays with his own voice, and it's a good one.

Bob is probably the giggingest steeler in NYC playing everything with everybody and anything with anybody.

I admire his open mind when it comes to playing music on the pedal steel. Never a dull moment at his gigs....

I was just playing some tracks from Hem's "No Word From Tom". Take a listen to Bob's playing on "South Central Rain." One good indicator of a player's skill is how well he or she can pull off understated tones that fit the music perfectly. Here is a good example.

Very nice. It's good to hear a singer that sings without shouting, and the steel is very tastefully done. I like this group.
