On Ray's Page of: www.jerrybyrdfanclub.com one can hear the sounds of an old, old Rick six string being played Hawaiian style, if there's anyone that cares? The Hawaiians are there this weekend accepting Manny's Award at the Hawaii Awards Program..... Alan Akaka, on steel guitar, sat-in for me at the show. I sure wish I could've been there to hear his interpretation of Manny's fine songs.

Very nice Ray!
You have an incredible "touch" and beautiful sound. Congratulations on your site.
I have a question for you.
Are there any clips, cuts, recordings in existence of the "Two Guitars" radio show that Jerry played on with Chet Atkins? That program Jerry talks about in his Book.
Best Regards,
Roy

I've never had any listening access to that of which you speak, however, I seem to recall someone here on the Forum making a passing comment about having several home made copies; this was within the past several weeks.
THANKS for the kind words.

Great sound and great playing, Ray! When you say that you're playing an "old, old Rick," how old are we talking here? Who's singing?

John one of the two guitars used was the earliest model with but a single volume knob.
The other guitar was a later model with two knobs on the far side. BOTH are pre-war models. Glad you took time to give a listen.
JEFF: Thanks for taking the time to give a listen and comment. All I can say is, I gave it my best shot, playing the only way I know how. I'm NOT Hawaiian like you and unfortunately, have never been to Hawaii and was not trained by a Hawaiian. Did you ever receive the CD's I mailed to you at your private "bunker"? They make good bookmarks! Did you attend the Hawaii Music Awards this past week?

Ray,

All I could find going to your website was two recordings of Jerry Byrd. I call myself exploring all of the links. How do I find yours?

Incidently, Jerry Byrd's playing IS Hawaiian. If one does not believe this, ask most "country" musicians why they do NOT play like Jerry when they play C6th; and see what they say.

Buy ya a steak dinner if the response is not an immediate, "his playin' sounds too Hawaiian to me".

I will concede that to a few native Hawaiian die-hards, Jerry does not play authentic Hawaiian style music, but you will never convince most of us steel players (and zillions of others) that he does not play pure Hawaiian; and IMO, (and zillions of others) he plays it better than any who has ever played. Or, ever will play!

Nevermind, you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

Nice playing, Ray.

Carl.......my personal contribution to the jbfc site can be found on page #5, dubbed "About Ray". NOTHING GREAT and certainly not "Hawaiian" by any stretch....however my steel contribution must have lent something to the CD as the Hawaii Music Awards folks rated it #1, FIRST PLACE WINNER in its category, #13. Manny picked up his Award over the weekend in Hawaii.
THANKS to the rest of you for your time and comments.

Good steel playing is good steel playing ... all the rest is semantics ... Ray, watch your P's & Q's unless the "jazz police" get onto you as well ... thank god we only play steel guitar. Love your work ... keep the faith.

If my fading memory has not lied to me once again, that tune is on Jerry's Memories of Maria album. Count on that.....unless I send you another email in short order, okay?

Thanx for writing.....Ray

To one and all......I've gone and messed up once again. Paul do check your email.

The beautiful tune being featured now on the jerrybyrdfanclub site is "Estrellita" and it's taken from Jerry's Monument album "Burnings Sands, Pearly Shells & Steel Guitars".

Sorry folks for having mislead you all once again and for having misspelled the title on the web site. Oh well. I've always heard that there is something to be said about consistancy? I will strive to be more accurate in the future.

My million mile plus, safe driving record also has come to a screaching halt last week when, while backing, I hooked the right front corner of my bumper on a huge concrete block used to protect a cyclone fence in the company's dock area. Frankly these 65 foot long trucks that need a couple of acres to turn around in, shouldn't even be allowed in that area of obstacles, etc. but oh well...........

At least, the Forum is not the only place wherein I'm having my problems.
