If you know Buck, you know he's one fine steel player, but it goes even further. Buck has always been willing to share his time, and talent with other steel players. He takes a special interest in those players just getting started. Making sure they have the right information to improve their playing. Buck has helped me over the years, and I bet, if you have ever talked with Buck, you've picked up something that has helped you too. Thank You Mr. Buck! What an honor to have you as my Friend. |

Salt of the Earth they are, Buck and Mitzi. Buck was very generous of his time and experience with me when I started playing a lot of steel shows. He shared with me his method of writing band charts for maximum clarity of communication, and I've been benefitting from his counsel ever since. Once again, many thanks to you Buck and it's nice to see more people recognizing you here.
All best to you and Mitzi,
Jimbeaux |

Buck a nice guy? Well let me tell you. He plays great steel but he also wears out a lead guitar. I have been trying to steal a lick or two for years and he won't share a thing. I'm just kidding he showed me one lick last year in St. Louis and I have played it on everything for a whole year. I hope he will show me a new one this year. What a great guy but how can you miss with Mitzi buy your side. Love to you both, Bobby [This message was edited by Bobby Caldwell on 30 May 2006 at 11:39 AM.] |

Bobby, did I ever tell you about the time I asked Mooney to hit me a new lick? Ralph pushed his volume pedal to the floor, stuck out his tongue and raked it across the strings of his Fender 1000.
If you're lucky, maybe Buck will show you how to play that lick. It should be good for 2 or 3 years. ..........JD

Buck is just a magician when it comes to playing music. Buck, as everyone knows is just an all around good person, as is Miss Mitzi. Buck has shared a few tips with me at shows, and he introduced me to Del Mullen, and thanks to him I'm sitting next to a beautiful blue Mullen D-10. And Thanks so much to Miss Mitzi for the great pictures she takes and gives us. She took the one on my website.

Buck and Mitzi are 2 of the finest people on the planet. Always willing to help, support, and contribute to the steel guitar community. Buck's playing is required listening, be it steel or lead guitar. |

Right on to everything that has been said about Mr. Buck and Ms. Mitzi. They are just fine and wonderful people. Mr.Buck ALWAYS has the best tone! I love to watch him play and his technique and delivery are second to none. Fast, accurate, precise, and with feeling, that is how Mr. Buck plays. Ms. Mitzi is always so great at the shows and with her contribution with pictures, these are priceless. I have had the pleasure of visiting with the Granthams at their home, and could not have been treated any better and really felt at home. Mr. Buck and Ms. Mitzi, yall really are the greatest and I am glad that yall are my friends. Share some of those licks and tone secrets with me please Mr. Buck!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

My memory of Buck goes back to 1955 when my family was living in Baton Rouge, La. He was playing steel with a local band that had some TV time, local special events, along with the "Old Country Store" show every Saturday night in Baton Rouge. I soon realized that the sounds I liked so much were coming from this washboard looking instrument called a steel guitar. I believe it was a double neck Fender. I was able to buy a National six string from the fiddler in the band -who had a service station in Baton Rouge - and kept various instruments around the station. I traded the National in for a Fender D 8 in 1955 - about the time my family moved to New Orleans. Still have the Fender, although it has never produced the sounds I remember coming from Buck's guitar. Buck was playing great music back in the fifties, and had no idea what an influence he had on a young guy that would love the steel guitar forever.
Thanks Buck - You Are Da Man!

That's right Dave, in 1955 Bruce Broussard's band was doing five shows a week on Channel 28 and we were doing two 3o minute shows a day on WAFB radio Here in Baton Rouge also working four nites a week at dance halls and VFW halls . I was running a milk route all the time this was going on. That's probably why my hair is so gray now but it was a happy time of my life because I was playing all the time. What I play now came from the fifties thru the eightys, and I'm still having fun with it . |
