I just got an early 50's stringmaster that I intended to refurbish. I have doubts as to the bridges being original. Mine are held down w/6 screws and the sides hold the are smooth, not pointed. There are small holes in the wood which could have held down the bridge cover. Did the early models have screwed down covers and does this sound like the originl bridges? The chrome pickups would have to be lowered quite a bit for the strings to clear them. I hope these bridges are the originals!!! Bad enough I still need a leg and a tuner key. Thanks, Ron

Aloha Ron!
How's Metuchen? I grew up In So.PLFD in the 60's and had a few friends in Metuchen..also went to Metuchen Music a LOT!...Still even have some of their picks...any way...I can't make heads or tails of your description...the Bridge on a stringmaster is only connected by the 2 intonation adjustment screws w/ springs to two "ears" on the whole chrome pickup assembly...also the covers just clip onto the ends of the slightly pointed bridge and can rotate so you can reach the blend knob...do you have a blend knob? and how are the ends of the strings anchored?...a photo is worth a thousand words...email me on or post it and I'll give you my opinion, I have rebuild a few stringmasters in my time and refinished at least a hundred fenders...so, I'll try to help out, but so far it sounds like you may need an entire P/U assenbly (which can be found or made out of flat stock, just cut and tabs made for the bridge ears)New bridge can be made out of round stainless..so it's work but if you're handy w/ a few simple tools or Know a machinist..it's simple really, that's the genius of Leo Fender.
Aloha,
Mike
PS how many necks? and pull off the tuner pan and see what year..it's usually under the one w/ the controls...

It's going back tomorrow for a refund. Too many problems as it needs a tuner key, bridge covers, and bridges. Someone put these rinky-dink bridges on and drilled 2 1/4 holes, probably for a pedal pull. I wanted a project but not an impossibility.
