Anyone familiar with a group that would have played around Waco or Hamilton Texas in the early 50s named the Texas Wranglers?
My father played for a while with them and I'm interested in finding any photos of the band.

Hi
I have an out of print LP with "Steel guitar rag" on it,also an old 78 by them, but these tracks probably has Elmo Davis on steel. There are also some band pictures on the cover, but the pictures don`t give any name of the bands,so not sure if TR is one of them, and if so,who`s in the picture.
Maybe other have more info.
Regards,Egil. |

Could that have been the Trout family band..Curly, Curtis, and their dad. They had a Radio show on KCLW in Hamilton and did a lot of school auditoriums etc. I think Curtis is living near Evant Tx. or was the last I heard. I believe that was their band name and if it was I'm sure Curtis would share any pics he might have.

Tree, I played with the group one time in Strawn Texas and Murl Alexander was the leader of the group. Carrol Troup was in the band, but it was Murl's band. I think that Carrol, Curly , and Curtis formed a band of their own after this...I think the time frame was around 1952, but not sure. Phred
Edited to add: No, I don't have any pictures. I was too busy soaking up Southern Select to worry about a Kodak Brownie.

Egil, Fred, Bobby,
Thanks for all the help. My father would have played for a very short time with the band, and I'm glad to find out about some of the history. He played all over Texas and New Mexico from about 48 to 54. He couldn't stay sober and play steel, so he gave it up.
He played with Sock Underwood's band in Ft. Worth during this time period. He got an offer to play with Billy Walker on the road in 54, but for only $200 (I think per month). He stopped playing (and drinking) and decided to raise his family. I was an toddler when he would jam in our living room with some pretty good players there in Ft. Worth. I believe that's one reason I have such an appreciation for steel guitar and country swing.
Thanks Again,
Danny |

Egil. Any way I could get a peek at the album cover you have showing photos of the Texas Wranglers? I know it's a big request, but it would be the only photo I would have of my father when he was younger playing steel.
I tried to e-mail you personally, but couldn't figure out the Yahoo e-mail.
