My buddy sent a pair of original '33/'34 Ricky Frypan magnets that were all gunked/rusted ...

I did them with a batch of mine yesterday ...

Here they are ... through the rough cut buffing (your looking at the steel only ... no plating yet).

Pictured are the "Pan's" mags ... a set of 1.5" H-Shoes ... a set of 1.25" H-Shoes ... and three sets of my alloy 1.5"-ers ...

Gotta go finish buffin' and platin' ...

Any "before" shots? I forgot to take some. I've only got pics of the innards.

You folks should see the kind of work Rick put into these shoes. I can't wait to see and hear 'em.

They are in the mail ...

Miss Bliss (The Moonlighters) ...

... will be able to touch up her lipstick in them

PS: They charged up to 217 & 219 gauss before the work.

After the work they charged to 223 & 232 gauss. Hard to believe they got harder (they were incredibly hard) at the surface from "working"... but so much heat was produced using the sisal wheel .. I had to throw off my leather gloves ... they were smokin'

Gotta question for you Rick...

I know that refinishing a nice original old guitar would kill the value. On a valuable all-original bakelite, like a very early Spanish, would it help or hurt the value to re- chrome the somewhat pitted horseshoes?

And how does rewinding pickups affect value?

I'm grateful for all the wisdom on this list!

Seriously ... you got me. ???

I know very little about vintage guitar sale/re-sale ...

The only reason I can see to rewind a Ricky is that the bobbin is either dead or shorted (some signal still gettin' thru, but way below "normal").

As far as the rusty magnets ... ???

I will say that corrosion left "unchecked" will eventually degrade the steel to the point where its ability to retain magnetism will be affected.
