My bride and I went to the Stockyards in Fort Worth this weekend. Got to go hear Mr. Charlie owens play a little steel at his home. That was a real treat Charlie and I'm working on that lick you showed me. Heard some good picking at Pearls Dancehall and Salloon on Friday night.
Then on Saturday afternoon we went to the Stagecoach Ballroom and listened to some really great Swing. Ron Stafford was playing an old D10 ShoBud Pro 1 and man did it sound fine! Any of you guys get a chance to go hear Ron play don't pass it up. The man can flat pick that steel guitar. Smooth and tasty as can be. Made me realize how far I have to go yet. They had some great twin fiddle's too and incredible vocals.
Also a special Thank you to The Cowtown Western Swing Society for honoring my dad Bobby Garrett this weekend. I was very happy to accept his award.
Thanks also to Miss Peggy Poovey for sharing a good bit of her weekend with Nina and me. We had a blast!

Rick speaks the truth. About a month ago,I had a chance to listen to Ron when I was playing across the street and his Sho-Bud did sound good.
He was playing some very tasty licks that night.

It ure was good to meet you and the Mrs. Rick, and good to see Peggy Poovy again.
You're right about Ron Stafford. He's great at what ever he does.. He can eat a six string alive as well. Thanks for coming by! Chuck
PS: Congrats to your Dad's award. It was very deserving! Stay in touch. Chuck |
