I was digging through a box of my old cassettes the other day and came across Ricky Skaggs's Waitin' For The Sun To Shine featuring Bruce. Man, it blew me away again, just like it did when it first came out. Man, what a great record and what a bunch of pickers! I was not a steeler back then, but now I'm hooked! I love what Bruce says on his DVD about getting with everybody you know who plays steel and pick their brains until they run you off. Thanks, Bruce! I am jazzed about playing the steel! |

I learned a lot from Bruce, especially how to play with attitude. The solo from Ricky Skaggs' "You May See Me Walking" is the best steel tone I've ever heard on record....period. Great player, and a huge influence on my playing. |

I must join the ranks, here. I have Bruce's instructional tape, and he is top notch! I have drawn much from that tape, and much inspiration from Bruce's delivery. He knows how to connect with us newbies! Thanx, Bruce!! |

Waitin' For The Sun To Shine and Highways & Heartaches have just been remastered and re-released as a double (on Gott Discs in the UK). I got it for Bruce's playing which is inspirational throughout (I'm not such a fan of Skaggs' voice I confess).
Bruce you teased us with part 2 of your DVD, any chance this will happen, pretty please with a bow on top??? |

Bruce Bouton,Ray Flack with Ricky Skaggs. Oh the good old days. That band was hot,and Bruce and Ray seem like the perfect match between the Steel and Lead guitar.Everything they played was hot. I don't remember hearing them play anything I didn't like. To bad they are no longer together. I get depressed when I hear Skaggs these days,as compared to the days when Bruce and Ray were with him. Everything they did back then had a lot of energy in it. |

Hi Steve, had the pleasure of meeting Bruce at a BBQ here in England about the time he was with Skaggs. Also had the pleasure of having Ray Flack in my own band here in England, be it for only about just 6 months, before he split up with his girl, then up rooted and went off to your Country,It's amazing how a player of Ray's kalibre in a band can boost the ability other players, me in this case. Next I saw him was playing with Joe Sunn back on tour in England, then him and Bruce went with Skaggs. Yes good old days and a couple of "GREAT" players

Thanks for the info Micky. You are a lucky man to have been in the middle of those two players at the same time. I agree about Ray Flack, it seems as if he could just stand there, and do nothing and you could just feel a heat wave of energy waiting to burn at any time. It still gets me going just thinking about Bruce and Ray and the stuff they did together. I loved every bit of it. |

I agree Steve, folks used to come from miles just because they knew Ray Flack was in the band. He sure improved my steel playing no end. Musicians tend to try match up to a good player in the band. On the other hand as you must know yourself, get a bad player in the band and it drags you down to their level

Steve, last I heard, and this was quite a while ago, was that Ray was doing session work around Nashville. I did have a cassette copy of his CD, but lost it. Some frightening playing on there
If you have an e'mail Steve, let's keep in touch..... We seem to like the same things. Send me an e'mail.

i feel that bruce is a very good player. i love the cd he did on instructions. i have had it for two years and i am still learning off of it. i have sent him some e mails asking him to make another one because the first one was soooooo good. we all have our favorates and i have to say bruce is my favorate. i just wished we could hear more from him. and this man don't sit still he is busy yet today on different things. i have gotten instruction tapes from a few different players and i am not mentioning names here but bruce is the best instructor! he takes his time and explains everything as he goes along. lets all get after bruce to make up another instruction tape or cd. thanks doc

Thanks for the kind words. I'm not sure what I could teach on a new instructional course. My first course was a basic course done almost twenty years ago. I would suggest Tommy white's course that he now has available on DVD. JD Maness's course is really great also. Those are the only two I've seen recently. I wish Lloyd would do a course.

I agree 100%! They had the best band in country music. I really liked the mixture of Ricky's bluegrass voice with electric lead, piano, banjo, and of course my vavorite, Bruce's speed pickin on steel.
And, when Ricky took over on lead guitar, he was as good, in my opinion, as Ray.
