About 3 months ago, I heard "Leavin' On My Mind" by the Hacienda Brothers on XM radio. I wasn't familiar with the band, but thought to myself "MAN, WHO is that steel player???" Incredibly tasty licks. I rushed out and bought the album, to find a guy I hadn't heard of, Dave Berzansky, and more of the same tasty stuff all over the disc. A little research on the Forum and I discovered that Dave hails from southern CA, has only been playing a few years, and owns one of Ricky Davis' old Pro II's. Imagine my delight to learn a short time ago that the Hacienda Brothers were going to be playing at Fitzgerald's (a great club on the west side of Chicago) with my long-time favorite, Bill Kirchen. I saw the show last night, and was completely blown away. Dave played with both the Bros. and Bill and exceeded my expectations by far. Not only was he a fabulous picker, he is an incredibly down-to-earth, friendly guy who took the time to explain some of the changes on his axe that I couldn't figure out. Great tone; great guy. Do not miss him if he makes an appearance in your area.
