I ordered the Jerry Byrd instructional course (binder & CDs) from Scotty's Music, but I just received my receipt in the mail and it looks like I'm being sent the Jerry Byrd VIDEO by accident.
Now I don't know what I should do. I'm *dying* for the printed course, as I have almost no printed reference material (only have the Cashdollar vol.2 video, & DeWitt's basic C6 book).
But it's going to be extremely hard to hold that video in my hands, then send it back and wait another 4 weeks to get the books.
If I can afford to keep the video, and then order the books as well, would that be redundant? Is there a lot of overlap?
I know the video must be superb, but would it make more sense just to order the books?
My plan was to let myself be consumed by that course and not leave my room for a couple months.
Any input from someone with experience with these JB courses would be GREATLY appreciated.

The video is very basic but it already shows that touch can make a simple little line sound professional. I think it's a good introduction to the tab course you initially ordered. Tab can sound awfully cold at the beginning... seeing how JB does it on tape will help you understand to handle the tab course better. The book is far more advanced IMO.

Knowing the way Scotty does business, just call them up and tell them what happened and they will send the instructional course out w/ the CD'S ,probably along with a apology.  |

If you can afford it, I would say keep both. The book has pictures of slant postions, etc., but I think it is nice to see the action in real time. I have both and think they're both good resources to have. I think the video will show you the mechanics of playing and the book will give you lots of material to play.

Yeah, it wasn't Scotty's fault at all, I just don't think I was clear when I ordered. I will call them.
I've been playing guitar and reading tab since '86, and I'm getting comfortable sliding around the C6 neck, so I'm really looking for something advanced and challenging. And just watching Jerry play on the video would probably be worth the cost, but it wouldn't be redundant to buy both the video and binder?
Anyone else own both?

Nope ... I have both.
Got the English/Japanese version of his "Course" in the mid 80's and his video when it came out.
As mentioned above ... its VERY helpful to see him "in action" and explaining some of his techniques and philosophies on the video ...
And his course is a just that ... his Course. He takes you from A maj tuning all the way through C6/A7 ... years worth of study.
Then there are his "Pro-Arrangements" ...
You can't have enough Byrd ... materials, recordings, videos, books, etc !!!!
