On the Jimmy Rodgers song: "Waiting For A Train", the steel guitar (or resonator) is so beautiful and haunting and lonely! That is the steel guitar which first fascinated me. Is that Cliff Carlisle ? Did Cliff record with Jimmy Rodgers a lot, or just a few times ? Did they travel on road shows together ?

In addition to his steel playing he wrote many hobo songs. I have a 1932 Cliff Carlisle song book full of his words and music.I think Cliff and his brother Bill toured and they did a lot of recording.
Keep on pikin

The steel player on Waiting for a Train is John Westbrook. I'm just going from memory, but I think Cliff Carlisle recorded only four tracks with Jimmie Rodgers. Carlisle's own records come up on eBay frequently, both on 78 as well as album and CD reissues. He's a big favorite of mine. The Arhoolie CD compilation is a good place to start for anyone who doesn't know Carlisle.
