Hello everyone!
I am a new member but definitely not a trained musician. I'm a PS wannabe.
I made my own 12-string E9 4+4 and I was trying to choose a copedent, and had one pull left over.
So on RKR I put a one fret raise on strings one and seven since I saw that some of you guys had done that. But how do you use it? I know that the G on string seven can be used for the "Ernest Tubb" run. Maybe there is a better pull to use instead. Thanks in advance for your help.
Here's my copedent:

Sorry, guys. I had that all spaced out nicely in Courier font and it got all crunched up during the post. What a mess! |

I replaced all spaces with alt-255 spacer, and added HTML font code. ========================================================================================

I don't use F# to G much although I do use F# to G# on both 1 and 7
F# to G is used to move the 6th to b7th tone on a pedals down 6th chord. For example, on strings 6,5,4,1 you have an A6 chord open. If you raise 1 a half step you will have an A7 chord.
I know b0b uses F# to G for many other applications -- like scales. Perhaps he'll elaborate.
here's an interesting little little chromatic snippet you can use
1-------0----0~~0#---------------
2--------------------------------
3---------------------0----0#----
4-0~~0#----0#------------0-------
(Flever)-----(F#-G)-------(B pedal)
--E--F--F#-F--F#-G----G#--E--A--
Chords move from E to A on the last note

On your KL to raise e-f, you might want to do what I did on my 12st ext e9, and lower the 12 stg from e-c#. Cool change, I like it alot!

Dave, if you need to play an open position 7th chord with the 7th on top, (or a related riff) you will lose the third of the chord with your LKR lowering G# to F# with the D# to D lower.
If you need the fourth tone of the "pedals down" chord (A & B pedals depressed) on string 2, LKR may split, lowering the root.
I'm not as experienced as most here, but I thought I would mention this. You may want to consider separating these pulls. I don't know if this will bother you or not. Hopefully someone of experience will also see this and comment.

This should help you to get about all you'll ever need for some very interesting playing! ––––––LL––LR––1––2––3––4––RL––RR––
F#____________G#__________G________
D#____________E________________D___
G#__________________A______________
E_____F___Eb___________F#__________
B________________C#____C#__________
G#__________________A_____F#_______
F#_____________________________G___
E____F/F#_Eb_______________________
D______________________________C#__
B________________C#________________
G#__________________A______________

If you use the Day Setup, just reverse P's 1-2-3-4 and then reverse LL & LR and also RL & RR, for comfort!

John L., thanks for the UBBCode tip. You and Larry were quick on the draw. I got it sorted HTML style before I saw your posts.
Larry, thanks for the snippet and the explanation.
Jim, thanks for the string-12 C# tip.
Mike, I mainly use LKR with RKL to get a V chord, and threw the 7b on string-2 in along with it to save a lever. (I'm still in pedal kindergarten)
John B., thank you for the copedent. I guess you use the dual G#,E on strings 1,2,3,4 when you are strumming, is that it?
I have an old Mel Bay pedal book by Don Sharp which uses 4 pedals only; P1 and P2 are the same as Nashville, P3 was the 5b pull, and P4 gave the (752) down chord on strings 4,5,6, and the (375)IIIm on strings 3,4,5. I notice that your copedent doesn't have the Bb pull.
You guys certainly know how to make a novice feel welcome. Thanks again.[This message was edited by Dave Marshall on 04 April 2006 at 08:26 PM.] |

The way Don Sharp explains it, you get a partial 9th two frets to the left of the major with the 5b pull.
By the way, he uses only triads in his book.
I did a search on the net for him but his name never showed up.[This message was edited by Dave Marshall on 04 April 2006 at 08:08 PM.] |
